Nossos ETAs

Drew

Drew Wildes, a native of south Georgia, graduated in 2013 from Mercer University with a Bachelor's in International Affairs and Spanish. He is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Linguistics at Georgetown University. Within that program, he specializes in Sociolinguistics with a focus on endangered languages and language maintenance. In his spare time, Drew enjoys a number of hobbies, including hiking, traveling, learning foreign languages, and playing drums. He is very excited to be at UFPR as an English Teaching Assistant (ETA) and is looking forward to working with ISF and Letras students.

Laura

Laura Li, a native of the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area, graduated from Oberlin College (Oberlin, OH) with a degree in Politics. She is very excited to be in Curitiba, Brasil as a Fulbright Scholar working with the ISF and Letras students at UFPR Reitoria. Education and educational policy are one of her main passions and she is looking forward to learning more about international education, her students, and Brazil! In her spare time, Laura plays Taiko, Japanese ensemble drumming, with Wakaba Taiko at the Nikkei Clube de Curitiba and also takes Portuguese classes at CELIN.

Katie

Katie is from Canton, Connecticut, where black bears roam and snow falls five months of the year. She loves making friends, playing sports, hiking, and experiencing foreign cultures. Before arriving in Brazil, she studied English literature and long-form journalism at Mount Holyoke College. She's also worked at an education technology startup in Washington, D.C. Recently, she's taken up baking and is enjoying eating copious amounts of goiabada. An early-riser, Katie hopes you'll join her for English fun at Conversation Club in NAP on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 9:30h-10:30h!

Sofia

Sofia joined the IsF program in March 2015 to work as an ETA (English Teaching Assistant) as part of a U.S. Fulbright fellowship. A native of Argentina, Sofia has been living in the United States since the age of 9. Sofia grew up in Miami, FL, and graduated with a degree in Sociology and International Relations from Northwestern University in Chicago, IL in 2014. Sofia loves traveling and has an affinity for languages: she is a bilingual Spanish and English speaker, and also speaks French, Italian, and some Portuguese. She will be in Curitiba until December, and looks forward to working with the IsF team and students at UFPR!
